Gerland keeps Bayern coaching role
Bayern Munich have confirmed Hermann Gerland will stay on as assistant coach next season.
Gerland stood in to help out Jupp Heynckes when Jurgen Klinsmann was sacked in April, and had expressed his desire to remain with the first team after coaching the reserves for the past eight years.
The arrival of Louis van Gaal cast doubt over Gerland's future role, but an agreement was reached following a meeting between the pair in Munich yesterday.
Van Gaal has also confirmed he will be bringing former Willem II director of sport Andries Jonker to the club with him.
The Dutchman arrived in Munich for the first time on Monday and further talks with general manager Uli Hoeness are scheduled to take place, with the pair drawing up a list of transfer targets and discussing the future of several players in the squad.
That squad will no longer include Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto, who confirmed he will be leaving when his transfer expires at the end of the month.
He was hoping to be given a two-year contract to enable him to end his career with Bayern, but he has only been offered a one-year extension.
The 34-year-old is now set to return to Brazil.
