Terry hails matured Rooney
England captain John Terry has hailed the growing maturity of Wayne Rooney.
Rooney has shown outstanding scoring form for his country and was on target for the eighth time in his last six appearances for Fabio Capello's side during the weekend win in Kazakhstan.
Terry feels the desire and hunger Rooney shows are vital components for the Manchester United frontman but considers a more calm approach to be paying dividends.
Terry said: "He's matured so much as a player. He's so clever, footballing-wise. There's no-one more natural than him in the world at the moment.
"He causes so many problems for defenders. You can see him maturing on and off the pitch at the moment. I love that hunger he's got about him, the way he flings himself into tackles.
"We all love that passion he shows. But this year he's calmed that down a bit and his performances are definitely paying off for doing that."
England will be on the verge of qualifying for the World Cup finals if they overcome Andorra at Wembley tomorrow evening and chalk up a seventh straight win in their group.
And Terry is looking for England to sign off the season in style to leave a feelgood factor throughout the summer and repay the fans unable to attend the game because of a 48-hour tube strike.
The Chelsea skipper said: "We're in such a good position in the group and we've got a chance to put ourselves in an excellent position with another three points and to make it seven wins out of seven.
"We have not done that before as a group, and it's something we're all excited about doing. It's the last game of the season for us so we want to finish well.
"It will be nice to finish on a high. It's been a tough and long season. If we score two or three goals, the performance will come with the result. Quick and flowing football will make it difficult for them.
"The main thing will be to get the win, then you take the momentum into next season. From a club point of view at Chelsea, we could have had the worst season ever but we finished on a high with the FA Cup.
"Therefore we came here on top of the world and full of confidence. It's the same with England.
"We owe it to ourselves to send everyone off with that belief for the summer and then hopefully roll on the same way next season."
Terry was full of praise for the 1,500 England fans who made the lengthy trip to Kazakhstan and wants to reward all supporters who may get encounter travel problems because of the industrial action affecting the London Underground.
He said: "It's a disappointing thing but we had 1,500 travel to Kazakhstan which was unbelievable. I'm sure there will all be trying their best to get to Wembley.
"But, no matter how many are there, we'll try and get the job done for them. If people can't make it, hopefully they'll be watching the game at home and supporting us.
"I feel we have a responsibility to put on a show? We know how hard it is for the fans financially at the moment so we're hoping we can pay them back now.
"Whoever turns up, let's hope we put on a show for them. When things are going badly for us, they're going to be the ones turning up and supporting us. This is a chance to pay them back."
