Anigo issues Diouf warning
Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo has threatened to quit the club if president Pape Diouf is forced out.
Diouf is said to have clashed with the club's owner, Robert Louis-Dreyfus, over OM's failure to win a trophy last season despite heavy investment and reports over the weekend suggested he was on the verge of being sacked.
Anigo has hit out at the treatment of his boss in an interview with La Provence newspaper today.
"To destabilise Pape is pure recklessness," Anigo said. "For five years he has done a great job. There were no legal or financial problems. There have been few failures with signings. He mended the relationship with supporters.
"Pape is a man of quality. It is inconceivable to upset the club when it is stable and calm."
Anigo added that he found the situation "difficult to believe" after three years in which Marseille have finished in the top three, but insisted he would not hesitate to follow if Diouf went.
"If Pape must go for any reason, one thing is certain," he said. "I will pack my bags. I have so enjoyed working with him and the team that I cannot do it with others."
Anigo also called for the matter to be settled urgently, claiming it is affecting efforts to recruit new players for next season.
"When we speak to players and agents, they inevitably ask, 'Who should we be talking to?'" he said.
"It is necessary that this story be settled quickly. It is about the competitiveness of the club next season."
