Feindouno to the rescue for Guinea
Two goals from Pascal Feindouno helped Guinea retain their slim hopes of qualifying for the World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Malawi.
Syli Nationale, who lost their opening two games in the African zone Group E, looked in control throughout their encounter in Conakry with the Al-Sadd midfielder scoring the 21st and 42nd minutes to set them on the way.
The Malawians only managed a late consolation through Chiukepo Msowoya (89) as they were left still searching for their first points in the pool.
The three points help the hosts close the gap on Burkina Faso (six), who lost their top-of-the-table clash with the Ivory Coast (nine) yesterday.
In the only other game today, Mali also claimed their first win of the qualifiers coming from a goal down to overcome Benin 3-1 in Bamako.
Seidath Tchomogo (16) had given the visitors a shock lead at the National Stadium, but the hosts hit back with goals from Modibo Maiga (21), substitute Mamadou Diallo (75) and Frederic Kanoute (85) to ease to victory.
The win for the Eagles lifts them into second place in Group D on four points, five behind leaders Ghana, while Benin (three) and Sudan (one) prop up the table.
