FC Utrecht midfielder Gregoor van Dijk has expressed his disappointment after being stripped of the club captaincy.

No reason was given by the Eredivisie club for Van Dijk's demotion, although the 27-year-old has been outspoken against team-mates and boardroom decisions in the past.

Utrecht coach Ton du Chatinier and technical director Foeke Booy have appointed Tim Cornelisse as the club's new skipper from next season.

"It's disappointing for me," Van Dijk, who had led the team since 2006, told De Telegraaf newspaper.

"I don't agree with the measure, but furthermore I don't want to say another word about it."
