Tapie hopes to return to game

Disgraced former Marseille president Bernard Tapie has revealed he is looking to return to football.

Tapie presided over Marseille during the club's glory days in the late 1980s and early 90s when they won four successive Ligue 1 titles, the Champions League and the Coupe de France.

However, his time in charge was brought to a sour end when Marseille were relegated in 1994 for fixing a game in the previous season and Tapie was handed a two-year sentence - 16 months suspended - for subornation of witnesses.

The 66-year-old has a personal fortune of around 150 million euros and is considering investing some of that back into football.

"I'll never go back to OM," Tapie told Le Parisien. "They will remain the club of my life but it's over for me.

"But I love football too much to not get back into it one day.

"I've started to have my own little idea. It needs to be a club that hasn't won anything for a long time and who plays good football.

"There's absolutely nothing sorted but if you want names it would be clubs like Nantes, Nimes, Cannes, Nice...and a good few more.

"Why not from this season?"
