Low: Ozil can hit heights

Germany coach Joachim Low believes Mesut Ozil has got what it takes to become one of the world's best players.

Werder Bremen attacker Ozil impressed as part of the triumphant Germany Under-21 squad at the European Championships last month, shining particularly in the 4-0 final win over England.

"When Mesut plays to his full potential, then he is absolutely fantastic," Low told the Welt newspaper.

"He has something that not many players have: he is efficient with everything he does.

"Every deep pass was very accurate, not only the ones which led to the goals. Not many players manage such precision.

"He is still a young player and it is not so easy for him, but if he carries on like this, then he will be a top international player."

Low also heaped praise on Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who he admitted is already part of his thoughts for next year's World Cup, while Hamburg defender Jerome Boateng also caught the eye.

They are all now standing on the fringes of the senior national team and ready to make the step up just in time for the World Cup next summer.

"The under-21s played a great tournament in Sweden and that gives the lads and the whole of football a huge boost," added Low.

"Such experience of winning a tournament is certainly important for self-confidence. That will help them in coming years.

"Looking at them individually, they were the strongest under-21 squad Germany has had in a long time."
