Villagers switch Bayern tie
SpVgg Neckarelz have moved their lucrative first round tie against Bayern Munich to Hoffenheim's Rhein-Neckar Arena.
Neckarelz lies just over 20 miles from the stadium, which is located in the village of Sinsheim, and will enable the sixth division club to earn a massive pay day with over 30,000 fans expected for the biggest match in the club's history.
The village of Neckarelz has 6,500 inhabitants, but their small stadium holds only 4,500.
Bundesliga side Hoffenheim were more than happy to accept their request to rent their stadium for the day.
"Neckarelz are more than welcome here," said Hoffenheim's general manager Jochen Rotthaus.
Other lower league sides have also opted to move their first round ties to larger stadia with Dattenfeld facing Schalke in Cologne's Mungersdorfer Stadion and Sonnenhof Grossasbach welcoming Stuttgart to Heilbronn's Franken Stadion.
Emden are also considering moving their home tie against Cologne to Bremen.
The first round matches take place on the weekend of August 1/2, one week before the Bundesliga commences.
