Savidan set to quit

Caen striker Steve Savidan admits it is "highly likely" he will have to call time on his career because of a heart defect.

The 31-year-old one-cap France international scored 14 goals for relegated Caen last term and was on the verge of a move to Monaco when his medical showed up a cardiac problem.

Savidan has not yet confirmed his retirement but accepts his switch to the principality club is off and a decision on his future career could be out of his hands.

"Following the various examinations made in the medical, it was revealed a cardiac anomaly has recently appeared," he said today at La Turbie, Monaco's training centre.

"Given the increased risk of an accident while playing football, signing with AS Monaco is no longer possible.

"It is highly likely that doctors will not let me pursue my career."

Savidan will now head back to Normandy for further tests.

"We expect medical confirmation but I want to reassure everyone on my health," he said.

"It's a big disappointment not being able to sign for Monaco because I wanted to realise a dream here."
