Steelers win again

In-form Pohang Steelers extended their winning streak to seven in all competitions with a 2-1 win over K-League leaders Gwangju Sangmu.

Veteran midfielder Kim Ki-dong opened the scoring from close range for Pohang after 26 minutes after following up a rebound from Hwang Ji-su's effort.

Lee Wan bundled home an equaliser for Gwangju two minutes later, but on the stroke of half-time Brazilian striker Denilson stepped up after being upended inside the area to send goalkeeper Kim Yong-dae the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Both sides continued to have chances but it was Asian Champions League quarter-finalists Pohang, who are still chasing honours on four fronts, who claimed all three points for a fourth straight time in the league to move up to fifth place, seven points adrift of Gwangju.

"It was always going to be a tough match playing against the leaders," said Pohang coach Sergio Farias.

"Overall, we are improving all the time and we are always looking to play balanced football. It wasn't a great game to watch but in terms of results, it was good."

Jeonbuk Motors and FC Seoul can dislodge Gwangju with wins against Suwon Bluewings and Incheon United tomorrow with the pair remaining just two points adrift of the leaders.

Elsewhere, Chunnam Dragons shared a 1-1 draw with Jeju United.
