Aguirre banned for three matches

Mexico coach Javier Aguirre has been banned by CONCACAF for his role in sparking ugly scenes in the Gold Cup match with Panama.

Aguirre clashed with Ricardo Phillips on the sidelines, appearing to kick him, around 10 minutes from the end of the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw and saw three players sent off.

Phillips was sent off, and fans began to throw objects on to the pitch, delaying the game for several minutes.

The suspension will begin with Mexico's game against Guadeloupe on Sunday. Should Mexico qualify, Aguirre would be able to return for the final.

However, if any game is outstanding from the ban at the end of Mexico's Gold Cup campaign, Aguirre will miss the crunch World Cup qualifier against the United States on August 12.
