Stephane M'Bia set his sights on Champions League glory after clinching his move to ambitious Ligue 1 side Marseille.

OM announced this morning they had come to an agreement with Rennes over the signing of the Cameroon midfielder, who has since undergone a medical and been unveiled as a Marseille player to the press.

The 23-year-old is OM's fifth signing of the summer - after Lucho Gonzalez, Edouard Cisse, Charley Fomen and Souleymane Diawara - and new coach Didier Deschamps will have a large, talented squad at his disposal for the forthcoming season.

M'Bia has even gone as far as claiming OM are contenders for the Champions League, a trophy Deschamps lifted in 1993 when captain of the Mediterranean side.

"My first ambition is to win the French championship with Marseille," he said.

"Then, with the squad we have, we want to take OM as far as possible in the Champions League. And why not bring it back to Marseille like Didier Deschamps did?"

M'Bia, who has agreed a four-year deal and is believed to be costing Marseille around 12 million euros, is a central midfielder by trade, but can also operate at centre-back or right-back.

Such is the strength in depth at OM now, he has a fight on his hands to nail a regular first-team place but that is not worrying him.

"I love competition, that is why I have come to Marseille," M'Bia added.

"I have confidence in myself. I showed certain things last season with Rennes but it's not up to me to talk about my qualities."

Deschamps, who is set to lose captain Lorik Cana in the coming days, is delighted to finally land a quality midfield anchorman.

"He has the qualities and the profile of the footballer I was looking for to fill the post of a midfielder in front of the defence," the former France captain said.

"That's to say, power, speed and intelligence. He has indispensable qualities. I also know the man is a winner and we need this type of player at Marseille."

Adil Rami could be OM's next signing.

The Lille centre-back has outlined his determination to leave the northerners and wants to join Marseille.

The fee could be a sticking point, however. Lille are looking to recoup a reported 15m euros but OM have not yet matched that fee.

Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo tonight revealed talks were ongoing between the two clubs.

"We are working on it," he said.

"He (Rami) is a player who is interesting a lot of clubs and it would be a lie to say that he doesn't interest us.

"The player has a huge desire to come and it is also OM's desire.

But there is a difference between what we want to do and what is reasonable to do."
