The United States needed extra time to secure a 2-1 win over Panama in Philadelphia and seal a Gold Cup semi-final against Honduras.

Kenny Cooper scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot at the end of the first period of added time after Roman Torres had fouled the substitute in the box.

Blas Perez had earlier put Panama ahead in first-half stoppage time, taking advantage of a kind ricochet inside the box, before Kyle Beckerman scored his first international goal to level four minutes after the restart.

They will travel to Chicago to face Honduras, who overcame Canada 1-0 thanks to a first-half Walter Martinez penalty.

Canada were in control when a Martinez bicycle kick struck defender Paul Stalteri on the arm and Honduras were awarded a spot-kick, which Martinez converted.

Kevin McKenna headed against the post five minutes from time as Canada failed to find a leveller.

The semi-final will be a replay of the 1991 final, which the US won and was one of only two previous times Honduras made it past the quarters.
