Benfica won the prestigious Amsterdam tournament thanks to a 3-2 victory over Ajax tonight.

The result ensured the Portuguese side top the table on 11 points, five more than Ajax and six more than Sunderland who secured an impressive 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid earlier in the evening.

Ajax got off to the worst possible start when Ismail Aissati turned the ball into his own net in the eighth minute and Angel Di Maria doubled Benfica's lead on the half hour mark.

Mitchell Donald pulled one back for the hosts on the stroke of half-time but David Luiz restored Benfica's two-goal advantage 10 minutes into the second half.

Dennis Rommedahl grabbed Ajax's second with 13 minutes to go but the Portuguese giants held on to clinch victory and the trophy.
