PSV looking to sell players
PSV Eindhoven may field a weakened line-up in their Europa League qualifier in order to keep players eligible for potential buyers.
The PSV board would like to see the current squad reduced before the transfer window closes at the end of next month, and know any players who turn out in the third qualifying round would become less attractive to potential suitors.
Chairman Frits Schuitema told newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad: "There is no real need to sell players, but it would be welcome if some would go.
"The coach needs to think with the club, and that is always the case. Fred is prepared to do that."
Rutten may opt to leave out such players as Danko Lazovic, Edison Mendez and Carlos Salcido.
He said: "As coach you of course strive to put the best players in the line-up. As a club person you look at other interests."
PSV appear ready to accept an offer from LDU Quito for Ecuador midfielder Mendez.
The 30-year-old, who joined Eindhoven from LDU in 2007 after a loan spell, has previously said he wants to return to his homeland for personal reasons.
"They made us an offer and this week we talk further," Rutten said in De Telegraaf.
PSV director Jan Reker added: "And because he will be a free agent after next season and because of the fact Edison has always been a true professional with us, we are prepared to cooperate."
There is also reportedly interest in the midfielder from Qatar, but PSV are less willing to consider that move.
