Ligue 1 Weekend Preview

In-form Nancy striker Paul Alo'o Efoulou insists the club's priority must be securing their top-flight status.

The Lorraine club top the Ligue 1 table after two rounds of fixtures as a result of convincing wins over Valenciennes (3-1) and Monaco (4-0), and they next take on Le Mans away on Saturday.

They struggled to stay up last season but it could be a very different story in the 2009/10 campaign the way they have started.

But Alo'o Efoulou, who bagged a brace against Monaco on his Nancy debut following a summer move from Ligue 2 outfit Angers, is not getting carried away.

"We don't know what is going to happen in the future," he said in an interview with French sports magazine So Foot.

"We know we have set off on the right footing, and we know we have a level. And if we are well prepared and we have ambitions, we can go far.

"But there is no precise objective - first of all, it is staying up. Anything more than that is a bonus."

Pablo Correa's side are one of three sides to have taken maximum points so far.

The two others - Marseille and reigning champions Bordeaux - are expected to last the pace and be the chief contenders for the title, along with Lyon.

OM, who have beaten Grenoble and Lille so far, are away at Rennes on Saturday while Bordeaux, winners against Lens and Sochaux, host Nice 24 hours later.

Deposed champions Lyon are two points off the pace and after beating VA 1-0 last weekend, they smashed five past Anderlecht in Champions League qualifying yesterday to lay down a marker.

They are away on Saturday to Auxerre, who are looking to avoid a third straight defeat, and Les Gones coach Claude Puel is delighted with the squad he has at his disposal for this campaign.

"We have everything here to have a good season. I am happy that the recruits are adapting so quickly," Puel, who has spent 70million euros over the summer, is quoted as saying in French daily newspaper L'Equipe.

Five teams - Rennes, Nice, Lyon, Paris St Germain and Lorient - have four points after two matches.

PSG take on Valenciennes away on Saturday in a match that will see Antoine Kombouare, the coach of the capital club, return to the Stade Nungesser for the first time since leaving the northerners over the summer.

Lorient travel to Monaco, with Saturday's other matches being Montpellier's home fixture against Sochaux and Boulogne's trip to St Etienne.

On Sunday, Grenoble entertain Lens and Lille welcome fellow Europa League entrants Toulouse.
