Baros demands Slovakia victory

Czech Republic's Milan Baros insists his team are not fearful of Slovakia but admits the World Cup qualifier is a must-win match.

The Czechs head to their local rivals lying second bottom of Group Three having picked up just eight points from their first six games.

Slovakia, meanwhile, hold a two-point advantage at the pool summit on 15 points and also have a game in hand on nearest challengers Northern Ireland.

Baros admits nothing less than victory will do for his side tomorrow if they are to get their dream of making next year's finals in South Africa on track, but the Galatasaray frontman is confident the Czechs will not be overawed.

"The pressurised atmosphere of big matches, as well as full houses, is something we are all used to, so it's definitely not a problem," the 27-year-old, who became a father for the first time earlier this week, told www.sport.cz. "It's vital that we keep our heads.

"We do not have another chance. Therefore, we will concentrate solely on winning, so we want to return to Prague having beaten Slovakia."

If Czech Republic do succeed in their mission and beat Slovakia, Northern Ireland can reclaim top spot in the group by completing the double over Poland with victory in Chorzow.

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington has called on his side to rise to the challenge and make it five successive wins in the qualifiers.

He said: "We have got to be solid and strong. We have got to have belief and make it happen. Everyone is looking in good fettle."

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans looks set to face the Poles at Slaski Stadium despite missing the weekend victory over Arsenal due to an ankle problem.

He joined up with the international squad on Tuesday, and Worthington said: "Jonny is an important player for us. I think he missed the game on Saturday through illness rather than injury.

"He has trained the last few days. He is bright and sharp and he's done the same work as everyone else."
