Hughes is up for the Cup
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has promised he will continue to name his best players in the Carling Cup.
Hughes has made no secret of the fact he wants to bring silverware to the club as soon as possible.
City sealed their place in the fourth round thanks to captain Kolo Toure's extra-time winner against Fulham at Eastlands.
Hughes said: "We will keep putting out strong sides. We had a decent crowd in and it is important we show respect to them and to the competition."
City are among 13 Barclays Premier League sides through to the last 16 with only Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Peterborough representing those outside the top flight.
Hughes said: "There are a number of Premiership sides in the next round and this cup has taken on great significance in recent times.
"Maybe it is one of those that clubs feel is winnable as the title is out of reach to all but a select few.
"You have to make the most of the competitions you are in and maybe we have a real opportunity to win it."
Hughes explained he only gave Craig Bellamy a run-out as they do not have a game until Monday when West Ham are the visitors.
It was thought Bellamy might be rested after scoring twice in the derby defeat by Manchester United on Sunday.
He was then involved an incident with a fan, who had invaded the pitch, and given a warning by the Football Association for his conduct.
However Hughes decided to go with Bellamy from the start against Fulham and he responded by putting in a hard shift.
Hughes said: "My only concern is that given Craig's injury history I am reluctant to play him in three games in a week.
"It is the only the fact we are playing on Monday that I was able to play him. We hope everyone recovers by then and the two extra days makes all the difference."
Meanwhile midfielder Stephen Ireland has been given the all-clear after being taken to hospital following the game.
Ireland was substituted complaining of dizziness and feeling unwell in the 75th minute, and was later taken for tests.
However, the club this morning have confirmed that nothing was found wrong with the 23-year-old, who will now take some time to rest before resuming training.
