China claim important victory

China claimed a morale-boosting victory ahead of their 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Lebanon as they defeated Botswana 4-1 at Hohhot City Stadium.

Gao Lin opened the scoring for the home side one minute before the half-hour mark, tapping in Rong Hao's inviting cross from the left.

Qu Bo doubled the advantage for China eight minutes after the break when he headed home after goalkeeper Barolong Lemmenyane had palmed out Gao's attempt.

Two minutes later, Zhao Peng leapt higher than any Botswana defender to connect to Zhao Xuri's corner and head past Lemmenyane.

Gao then set up a sitter for Yu Hai to tap home in four minutes to extend the lead for China before Mokgathi Mokgathi scored a consolation goal for the African side midway through the second half.

"The players gave their 100 per cent today to send a valuable gift to the motherland one day before the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China," said China manager Gao Hongbo.

"We still need to make good preparations in the coming two months for the Asian Cup qualifier in November."
