Spartak Moscow reduced Rubin Kazan's lead at the top of the Premier Liga to a single point with a 3-0 win over Lokomotiv.
Spartak had gone into the half-time interval with a 1-0 lead thanks to Zhano Ananidze's 41st-minute strike, before second-half goals from Welliton (62) and substitute Quincy Owusu-Abeyie (86) ensured Spartak kept pace at the top.
Zenit St Petersburg made sure they stayed in touch at the top with a 2-0 win at second-from-bottom Kuban Krasnodar.
Alessandro Rosina (26) and Vladimir Bystrov (49) got the goals to move Zenit four points behind Rubin.
Alexei Rebko's 77th-minute penalty gave 10-man FC Moscow a 2-1 win at home to Krylya Sovetov.
The capital club had looked second best for the win when Kirill Nababkin's 56th-minute expulsion followed just four minutes after Jan Koller had cancelled out Pavel Golshev's 41st-minute opener.
Rostov moved clear of the drop zone with a 3-1 win at Terek Grozny.
The visitors were 3-0 up by half-tie thanks to goals from Alexandru Gatcan (12), Aleksandr Pavlenko (18) and Mersudin Ahmetovic (44).
Half-time substitute Zaur Sadaev pulled a goal back six minutes after the interval, but that was the last of the scoring.
Rostov's win was soured by the dismissal of Maxim Astafiev in the 89th minute.
