Bordeaux vs Le Mans Preview
Bordeaux striker David Bellion is hoping to make an impact this season, starting tomorrow against Le Mans.
The former Sunderland and Manchester United forward impressed on his return to Ligue 1 in 2007 but has been a peripheral figure this season - and contributed only four goals to Bordeaux's title-winning campaign last term.
With Bordeaux going well again - they are third, just a point off top spot - Bellion could struggle for playing time once again.
But that has not dampened his enthusiasm, and he told his club's website, www.girondins.com: "I have to fight to earn my place and I want to play in a few consecutive games.
"The collective goal is to win, and mine is to get back in the team. It's a difficult period for me - but in times like this, a man can grow. I have to show great mental strength.
"I am happy with the club, and the team is doing well."
Bordeaux have stumbled recently, losing their last two Ligue 1 games, but looked back to their best in the midweek Champions League win over Bayern Munich.
Le Mans boss Paulo Duarte is aware a trip to the Stade Chaban-Delmas is one of the toughest assignments of the season but is backing his side to rise to the occasion.
"I love playing this type of match against the big teams," he told www.ligue1.fr.
"In this type of game I know my players will be super-motivated - and that's crucial to our chances of success, because motivation is the number one weapon of David versus Goliath.
"But I also know it's going to be a difficult match and Bordeaux too need the points and will be looking for the win."
Le Mans are currently 17th in the table, outside the relegation zone on goal difference only.
