Monaco 0-0 Grenoble

Monaco 0-0 Grenoble

Grenoble finally claimed their first point of the season in unlikely circumstances with a goalless draw at high-flying Monaco.

The visitors had lost all 11 of their previous Ligue 1 games but withstood late pressure from Monaco to give their suffering supporters something to cheer.

Grenoble had the first chance of the game after eight minutes when Monaco defender Nicolas Nkoulou slipped and lost control of the ball.

Nassim Akrour swooped and let fly from 18 yards with a right-footed shot which agonisingly flew inches wide of the post.

Monaco regrouped and almost took the lead in the 13th minute.

Mathieu Coutadeur's cross from the left was met by Yohan Mollo's close-range header but goalkeeper Ronan Le Crom pulled off an amazing save to keep the scores level.

Mollo turned provider a few minutes later with a cross from the right where Alejandro Alonso was unable to direct his header on target.

But it was Grenoble who could have gone into the interval in front after creating a good chance on 39 minutes.

Laurent Courtois' free-kick found Jimmy Juan in the area and his header had Stephane Ruffier well beaten, but it was also just wide of the post.

The visitors also had the first chance of the second period when Daisuke Matsui crossed for Laurent Battles to connect with a volley at the far post, but Ruffier pulled off another excellent save.

From then on it was largely Monaco on the attack, Le Crom being forced to save from Frederic Nimani and Coutadeur then firing narrowly over the bar from 18 yards.

Le Crom again denied Nimani in the 83rd minute when the striker got his header on target, and the inspired goalkeeper was alert two minutes later to deny the same player as he prepared to shoot.
