Puel takes positives from thriller
Claude Puel refused to be downhearted after Lyon missed the opportunity to go top of Ligue 1 in an extraordinary game against Marseille.
OL trailed 4-2 with 11 minutes remaining but Lisandro Lopez scored twice in four minutes, the second from the penalty spot, and Michel Bastos netted in the 90th minute to put Lyon 5-4 in front before Jeremy Toulalan's own goal handed Marseille an even later leveller.
"I'm a little frustrated for the players as they dug deep to find strength and character," Puel told www.olweb.fr.
"We led in injury time and then we conceded a last goal from a scramble and then a touch from our own player.
"Nevertheless, the team was immense and they scored four absolutely beautiful goals."
Midfielder Kim Kallstrom also chose to look on the bright side, seeing the match as one point gained rather than two thrown away.
"When we scored the fifth goal in the last minute, we thought it was over," he said.
"But, to be clear, we're happy with the draw because losing 4-2 with 10 minutes to go was a tough situation.
"The 5-5 draw was a fair result anyway.
"It was entertaining. It's important for football matches to be a little crazy sometimes."
Marseille boss Didier Deschamps never felt his side had the match sewn up, even when they were 4-2 in front.
He said: "When Lyon scored their third goal, I felt they had equalised when we still had a one-goal lead.
"Thinking about the goals and especially the first two, we were too passive.
"We lost two points. Maybe not compared to the first half, but leading 4-2 with 10 minutes remaining, in light of where we want to be, we must be able to defend that."
Deschamps added he would be working on defending on the training ground, saying: "If we have to score six goals to win a game, especially away, it's going to be tough.
"Collectively and individually, there are things to review."
