Brama delight at Holland chance
FC Twente midfielder Wout Brama is looking to prove he is not out of place in the Holland squad after receiving a late call-up.
The 23-year-old was included in the senior squad for the first time by coach Bert van Marwijk after first Demy de Zeeuw and then his replacement David Mendes da Silva were forced to pull out.
De Zeuw will have an operation on his throat this week, while Mendes da Silva is struggling with a hamstring problem he picked up in AZ Alkmaar's 1-1 draw with Feyenoord on Sunday, the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) confirmed on their official website.
Brama will hope to take the early-season form he has shown for Twente onto the international stage if handed his debut in one of the forthcoming friendlies with Italy and Paraguay.
He has featured in all of Steve McClaren's side's opening 13 Eredivisie games, helping them establish a two-point lead at the top of the table.
Brama revealed he was told of his call-up in a phone call from Holland team manager Hans Jorritsma.
"I am a little bit overwhelmed," he told Twente's official website. "But I am also very grateful. National coach Bert van Marwijk indicated that he wanted to take a look at me and that I had deserved it.
"I do not know what to expect. I think it will be fantastic to spend all this week with Holland's best footballers.
"A number of the players play in the Eredivisie but a large number play on a world level. I am really looking forward to it."
Holland take on world champions Italy in Pescara on November 14 before hosting Paraguay in Heerenveen four days later.
