Who is in line to replace Burley?
George Burley was sacked as Scotland manager in the wake of a demoralising defeat to Wales at the weekend.
Here's a look at his possible successors:
JIM JEFFERIES
An early favourite with the bookies and one of Scottish football's most experienced managers, with spells at Hearts and Bradford under his belt. The longest-serving boss in the SPL after more than seven years at cash-strapped Kilmarnock, he would probably welcome a fresh challenge.
CRAIG LEVEIN
His reputation was hit somewhat by his brief spell in charge of Leicester but he has since earned many plaudits for the job he has done at Dundee United, as well as at Hearts beforehand. His high-profile run-ins with the SFA in the past could be a problem though.
WALTER SMITH
With his Rangers contract set to expire in January and continued uncertainty over his Ibrox future, he could be an option for the SFA despite an acrimonious departure from the Scotland job the last time. A huge success as national team boss, he got the ball rolling on what was a thrilling Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, which saw Scotland just come up short under successor Alex McLeish.
GARY McALLISTER
A former Scotland captain, he earned 57 caps for the national team and played in both the World Cup and European Championships. Also boasts management experience with Coventry and Leeds United. Recently rejected the opportunity to join Burley's backroom staff but could be tempted by the top job.
JOE JORDAN
Another contender who enjoyed an excellent playing career with Scotland, he featured in three consecutive World Cups and scored in each of them. Currently working alongside Harry Redknapp as first team coach at Tottenham, he also has experience as a manager at Bristol City, Hearts and Portsmouth.
