The win was the seventh of the season for Al Shabab, who are now three points behind leaders Al Hilal. Al Ittihad are down to third after seeing their five-game winning run ended.
Libyan midfielder Tarek El Taib scored the only goal of the night after 36 minutes.
In the night's other game, Al Raed were twice pegged back in a 2-2 draw with Najran.
Al Raed took the lead on 11 minutes through Ahmed Abdulla but Saleh Doweis levelled before Mohsin Al Qarni restored Al Raed's lead 60 seconds later.
Najran equalised again with 18 minutes remaining through Hamad Harmas.
