Montpellier hit by swine flu outbreak
Montpellier have reported an outbreak of swine flu at the club and Saturday's Ligue 1 match against Monaco is in doubt.
Coach Rene Girard and club doctor Rene Raimondi today revealed that three players have tested positive for the virus, with more expected to follow.
Dr Raimondi said: "Swine flu has returned to the Montpellier squad.
"Eight players have been affected by flu. Three are currently positive for the H1N1 virus. Two are strongly suspected even if the tests have proven negative at the moment.
"Three other players and a member of staff are also sick."
A recent Ligue 1 match between Marseille and Paris St Germain was postponed because of swine flu, when three PSG players tested positive, and the French league (LNF) may now decide Montpellier's match against Monaco should be rescheduled.
The LNF's medical commission will be responsible for making that decision.
Dr Raimondi said: "If samples are taken too early, the test may be negative. But we need a quick result for the commission to make a decision (about the Monaco match).
"The sick players are currently isolated and undergoing treatment. We don't know if the match will be played or postponed."
