Bridges causes Sydney collapse

Michael Bridges stunned former club Sydney FC as the striker netted twice in Newcastle Jets' 3-1 win at Sydney Football Stadium.

Newcastle went in front after 22 minutes when Song Jin-hyun was brought down in the box by Rhyan Grant and Bridges sent keeper Clint Bolton the wrong way from the spot.

Bridges doubled the visitors' lead five minutes after the break when skipper Matt Thompson put the striker clear and, with just Bolton to beat, he made no mistake.

Thompson then added a third in the 58th minute when he produced a sidefoot finish following some excellent build-up work involving Bridges and Sean Rooney.

Alex Brosque pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go when he redirected Shannon Cole's free-kick but it was not enough as second-placed Sydney remain five points behind A-League leaders Melbourne Victory.

Elsewhere, Reinaldo's double helped Brisbane Roar to a 4-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix at Suncorp Stadium.

Sergio Van Dijk headed against the woodwork early on before Reinaldo put the hosts in front after 17 minutes when he was on hand to convert after Reece Crowther parried Van Dijk's header into his path.

Chris Greenacre levelled 10 minutes later but Roar pulled away in the second-half.

Reinaldo claimed his second in the 55th minute when he beat Crowther with a low finish having been played in by Charlie Miller and Van Dijk found the net with a fine 76th-minute free-kick.

David Dodd then completed the scoring in the final minute after being played in by Mitch Nichols.
