Al Ahli's struggles continue

Defending UAE league champions Al Ahli continued their disappointing run as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Wasl.

Al Wasl opened the scoring after only 14 minutes when Brazilian striker Douglas Dos Santos' neat pass picked out compatriot Alexander Oliveira, whose powerful shot was deflected into the net by Al Ahli defender Saad Srour.

Al Ahli tried their best to get back into the game and fired a warning shot in the last minute when Hassan Ibrahim's was headed against the woodwork by Brazilian striker Bare.

However, Bare was not denied seconds later as he scored from Salem Khamis' corner to earn his side a point.

Al Ahli climbed to seventh in the league standings with eight points and remain behind Al Wasl only on goal difference.

Elsewhere, newcomers Bani Yas continued to spring surprises as they hammered 2008 champions Al Shabab 4-0 to climb to third.

After a scoreless first half, Ivory Coast striker Modibo Diara opened the scoring after 69 minutes from the spot before Oman midfielder Faouzi Bashir made it 2-0.

Senegalese striker Andre Senghor scored the third on 77 minutes and, six minutes later, Diara scored his second and his team's fourth.

Round seven of league fixtures continues on Monday when Ajman take on Al Nasr and leaders Al Jazira visit Al Sharjah while, on Tuesday, Al Dhafra play against Emirates and Al Wahda meet Al Ain.
