Coupet suffers horror break

France international goalkeeper Gregory Coupet could miss the World Cup after fracturing his leg on Saturday.

The Paris St Germain custodian got his studs caught in the turf trying to make a clearance during the 1-0 victory over Auxerre.

PSG left-back Sylvain Armand had described the incident by saying: "I was close to the incident and I saw the bone poke through his sock."

PSG boss Antoine Kombouare admitted it was a major blow to lose the experienced former France international.

"It's definitely a fracture of the left leg," Kombouare said after seeing his keeper leave the pitch on a stretcher in the 82nd minute.

"He went straight to hospital and we'll know more about how serious it is on Sunday.

"He'll be unavailable for a long time and it will be very complicated (to get him back before the end of the season).

"It's a very serious injury, it's shocking. It sends a chill down your spine. We're losing a great player and a big leader."

Club president Robin Leproux said Coupet's injury had overshadowed the match.

"Greg's injury completely ruins the evening," he said. "It affects us massively."
