Japanese trio reach AFC Champions League
Kashima Antlers, Kawasaki Frontale and Gamba Osaka have made the 2010 AFC Champions League after ensuring they would finish in the J.League's top three with one round to go.
Japan forward Shinzoh Kohrogi scored twice as Kashima beat third-placed Gamba 5-1 on Saturday to reach 63 points.
Kawasaki remained two points behind, with a better goal difference, after a goal by DPR Korea striker Jong Tae-se sealed a 1-0 home win over Albirex Niigata.
Gamba, the 2008 AFC Champions League winners, have 57 points, four clear of Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
In Saturday's final round of games, Kashima will play away at Urawa Reds, the 2006 J.League champions and 2007 AFC Champions League winners, as the Antlers seek to become the first club to win a hat-trick of J.League titles. Kawasaki visit relegated Kashiwa Reysol.
Kashima, Kawasaki and Gamba all reached the knockout stage of this year's AFC Champions League. Kashima lost to FC Seoul on penalties in the round of 16, while Kawasaki beat Gamba to reach the quarter-finals.
Japan's fourth team in the AFC Champions League will be the winners of the Emperor's Cup final on January 1, unless the tournament is won by Kashima, Kawasaki or Gamba, in which case the J.League's fourth-placed team will qualify.
All three clubs are in the Emperor's Cup quarter-finals, which take place on December 12 and 13.
Meanwhile, Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma will face Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the two-leg K-League playoff final on December 2 and 6 after beating AFC Champions League holders Pohang Steelers 1-0 in Sunday's one-leg semi-final.
Jeonbuk, Seongnam, Pohang and FA Cup winners Suwon Samsung Bluewings will represent Korea Republic in next year's AFC Champions League.
The line-up for the 2010 AFC Champions League already includes five of the six winners of the event, including Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad, who won back-to-back in 2004 and 2005 and lost to Pohang in this year's final.
The draw for the 2010 AFC Champions League, which will again feature eight groups of four teams, will be held on December 7 at AFC House in Kuala Lumpur.
