Salzburg vs Lazio Preview

Salzburg are hopeful of top scorer Marc Janko will have recovered in time for their Europa League Group G clash against Lazio.

Janko sat out Sunday's goalless tie against Rapid Vienna with a muscular injury but is set to start against the Italians.

"The problems surrounding my injury were not too serious," said Janko, who has struck three goals for Salzburg in European competition, including the winner in his team's 2-1 triumph at Lazio on Matchday 1.

"But I needed to be 100% fit for the match against Rapid Vienna.

"As a result we decided that I wouldn't play.

"I'll do everything I can to be fit for the Lazio match and be able to play in that one."

Sunday's outcome left Huub Stevens´side level on 35 points at the top of the Austrian league alongside Rapid Vienna.

A draw tomorrow would be sufficient to see the Austrian giants through to the next round of the competition.

Salzburg, who have triumphed in all four of their group games so far and have not conceded a goal since their opener against Lazio, lead the group with a six-point advantage over the Italians and Villarreal.

While Salzburg will look to push Lazio closer to elimination from Europe, the Romans look to rescue a season which is turning quickly into one to forget.

Lazio's run without a Serie A win continued as they were held to a goalless draw by fellow strugglers Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

The Romans have failed to come out triumphant in the league since August 30 and remain 15th in the Serie A table, one point clear of the drop zone heading into this weekend´s city derby against Roma.

Davide Ballardini´s men have struggled in front of goal and have now failed to find the back of the net in their last three games.

The hosts will fancy their chances for Lazio have won only one of their last six European away fixtures.

Lazio host Levski Sofia in the final group game while Salzburg travel to Spain to meet Villarreal on December 17.
