England international Katie Chapman is to join the Chicago Red Stars for the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer season, the American club announced tonight.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who has 73 caps, has been signed by former Arsenal assistant coach Emma Hayes, who has been head coach of the Red Stars since the inception of the WPS in 2008, and will also be reunited with England and former Arsenal team-mate Karen Carney.
"I have watched Katie play since she was 15," Hayes said of the mother of two. "I coached her for two years at Arsenal and she is a rock that makes everything around her better. She was the engine and heartbeat of the successful quadruple-winning team (in 2007).
"I travelled to the European Championships this past summer (where England lost in the final to Germany) and she was England's best player.
"She will bring steel and consistency to the midfield and she is a wonderful human and team-mate. Her experience will push us forward and I am delighted to be working with her again."
Carney joined Chicago at the start of the inaugural 2009 season as one of a quintet of England internationals in the fledgling professional league, which ran from the end of March to the end of August.
Kelly Smith and Alex Scott are with the Boston Breakers, Anita Asante plays for New Jersey's Sky Blue FC and Eniola Aluko is at St Louis Athletica.
