Feyenoord 3-1 FC Groningen

Feyenoord came from behind to defeat FC Groningen and leave their opponents struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Fourth-placed Feyenoord would have been confident of three points going into the match but they were behind in only the fourth minute as Koen van de Laak struck the opener.

It stayed that way until the eighth minute of the second half, when Stefan Babovic levelled, and further goals from Roy Makaay and Jon Dahl Tomasson earned the hosts the three points.

Van de Laak gave Groningen the perfect start, seizing on a pass from Leandro Bacuna and finishing neatly from six yards.

Feyenoord's first opening came in the ninth minute but Babovic's free-kick was narrowly off target, while, at the other end, Goran Lovre shot wide for the visitors.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst followed suit for the Rotterdammers and the half concluded with Sekou Cisse's effort being deflected behind.

Feyenoord had been disappointing but they were level 53 minutes in. Cisse found Babovic and the midfielder found the top corner from 18 yards.

Groningen hit back, with Tim Matavz firing just wide, but it was the hosts who took the lead for the first time in the 64th minute.

Tomasson touched on Cisse's pass to Makaay and the striker slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Feyenoord were well on top by now and, after Cisse and Makaay were both denied by Luciano Da Silva, Tomasson made it three in the 83rd minute after the Groningen keeper could not hold onto a shot from Georginio Wijnaldum.
