Portuguese Liga Saturday Review
Benfica risk surrendering top spot after needing a last gasp strike from Nuno Gomes to rescue a 2-2 draw from their trip to Olhanense.
The league leaders twice trailed and played more than 45 minutes with 10 men in a difficult match.
Carlos Fernandes put the hosts ahead after nine minutes and then, after Javier Saviola had equalised in the 28th minute, Vitor Toy put them back on top shortly after.
But despite the 42nd minute dismissal of Angel Di Maria, Benfica continued to fight and earned their point when Nuno Gomes popped up at the death.
The result leaves them one point clear of Braga, who play Naval tomorrow.
Olhanense remain one place clear of the foot of the table.
Sporting's disappointing season took another turn for the worse as they lost 1-0 at home to Uniao Leiria.
Paulo Vinicius got the only goal in the 27th minute to leave Sporting 12 points adrift of the top of the table.
