Club Brugge 1-0 Toulouse
Ivan Perisic rubber-stamped Club Brugge's place in the Europa League round of 32 with a late winner against Toulouse.
The game was a winner-takes-all clash between two sides contesting second spot in Group J in a bid to join Shakhtar Donetsk in the next round.
Brugge were a point ahead of the French side, however, and knew a draw would be enough to secure their progress. However they went for the win tonight, enjoying the better chances throughout and ultimately being rewarded in stoppage time as Perisic hit a richly-deserved winner.
There was a measure of deja vu about the situation for Brugge, who needed a point against FC Copenhagen at the same stage of last season's UEFA Cup but ended up losing.
Jonathan Blondel carved out the game's first chance in the third minute, trying his luck from 18 yards but seeing his effort saved with relative ease by Mathieu Valverde.
The home side maintained their early pressure as Antonin Alcaraz headed over the bar moments later.
A flurry of activity in the 16th minute resulted in Toulouse's Ricardo Machado smashing an effort from 20 yards with his left foot which forced Stijn Stijnen into an acrobatic save after his defence failed to properly clear a free-kick.
Michael Klukowski briefly brought some excitement to proceedings after a long lull with a 54th-minute shot from the left but his somewhat speculative attempt went over the bar.
At the same end Brugge had an effort in the 56th minute when Rostand Kouemaha fired towards goal but like his team-mate's effort, the shot was rather hopeful and Valverde made the save.
The pressure continued to mount on Toulouse and they had a narrow escape when Ronald Vargas' left-footed effort from six yards somehow failed to trouble the defence.
With less than 20 minutes left on the clock Vargas again tried his luck, this time seeing his right-footed effort from the edge of the area going wide.
After his woeful shot earlier in the half, Vargas turned instead to assistance to set up the injury-time winner, crossing from the right for Perisic to tap home.
