Jeonbuk Motors get into top gear

South Korea champions Jeonbuk Motors completed an excellent week by defeating Suwon Bluewings 3-1 in the K-League.

The 2006 Asian Champions League winners returned home after a 4-1 win over Persipura of Indonesia in the opening round of the 2010 continental competition and seemingly felt no ill-effects from the journey.

Cho Won-hee opened the scoring for Suwon, who drew 0-0 with Gamba Osaka of Japan three days later, after just four minutes. The midfielder, on loan from Wigan, hit a 30-yard thunderbolt into the roof of the Jeonbuk net.

Jeonbuk's Brazilian star Eninho half-volleyed the champions level on the half-hour and the same player put the hosts ahead from the spot midway through the second half after Suwon's Juninho brought down Choi Tae-wook in the area.

There was still time for a late goal from new signing Krunoslav Lovrek who added to his midweek hat-trick with a well-taken strike in added time.

"We were full of energy and confidence," said Jeonbuk coach Choi Kang-hee after the match.

"We had prepared well for the opening game and to win in front of our fans is great."

Choi even had time to think about the March 9 home game against Kashima Antlers of Japan in the Asian Champions League.

"If we win that match then we have a good chance of getting to the second round," he added.

Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma followed up their midweek win over Japan's Kawasaki Frontale with a 3-0 victory at home to Gangwon FC.

The hero of that Asian Champions League triumph was in the thick of the action once again as Colombian star Mauricio Molina scored twice while Brazilian Fabrizio got the other.

Title hopefuls FC Seoul got off to a great start with a 5-2 win at Daejeon Citizen while Ulsan Horang-I downed Gyeongnam FC 1-0.

Incheon United squeezed past Chunnam Dragons at home by the same scoreline while Jeju United also won 1-0, this time at Busan I'Park.

Elsewhere, Gwangju Sangmu picked up a 2-1 victory at Daegu FC.
