Montpellier vs Auxerre Preview
Montpellier and Auxerre emerged unscathed from trips to Bordeaux in the past week and can move past the Ligue 1 leaders on Saturday.
Montpellier gained a 1-1 draw at Les Girondins last Sunday while Auxerre went one better on Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory.
The results mean there is just one point separating all three clubs with Bordeaux and Montpellier holding a slight edge.
Laurent Blanc's struggling Bordeaux host a St Etienne side fighting for survival tomorrow, meaning the door could be ajar for the winner of the Montpellier/Auxerre clash to go clear at the top of Ligue 1.
Montpellier striker Souleymane Camara is aware of how tight things are and has targeted a crucial three points tomorrow.
He said: "The top six teams in the standings are separated by just a few points. It's good for the suspense but we know there are still many games left. We'll try to take maximum points. "
Camara has warned his team-mates to be wary of the threat posed by Auxerre strike duo Ireneusz Jelen - who scored both goals in the win at Bordeaux - and Daniel Niculae.
"They are a very good team," he said of Auxerre.
"They get forward very quickly and they have talented players like Jelen.
"He is very dangerous and at his side is Niculae, an underrated player who works hard in every game.
"When you look at their team it is full of good players."
Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez has played down his side's title chances, despite their wonderful midweek win.
"We are not really in the race but we enjoyed the win," he said. "We have nothing to lose."
