Al Wahda give Boloni the boot

UAE League champions Al Wahda have sacked Romanian coach Laszlo Boloni despite a 3-1 win against Ittihad Kalba.

The decision was made following Al Wahda's 2-0 defeat to Al Wasl in their opening league game which had been preceded by a 3-1 loss against Cup champions Emirates in the Super Cup two weeks ago.

Boloni only took charge of the team last May when he replaced Austrian coach Josef Hickersberger, who led Al Wahda to the league title last season before leaving to coach the Bahrain national team.

"We decided to sack Boloni as he didn't manage to use the qualities of the players," said Al Wahda team manager Abdullah Saleh.

"The coach went into each game with a different formation.

"This affected the results of the club which is preparing for the forthcoming Club World Cup.

"The decision to sack Boloni was made after the defeat by Al Wasl as it was clear that he is not the man who can fulfil our ambitions."
