Lorient have confirmed the signing of defender Lamine Gassama from Lyon.

The 22-year-old Senegal international has penned a four-and-a-half-year contract at Stade du Moustoir after the two Ligue 1 rivals agreed an undisclosed fee.

"I think FC Lorient can be very good for me," Gassama told club website fclweb.fr. "There is a very good coach and very good players and I also like the family aspect of this club."

Gassama began his senior career with Lyon in 2008 but has made just 24 first-team appearances in all competitions since.

Lorient coach Christian Gourcuff added: "Lamine is young and motivated.

"His arrival seems to make sense both financially and in sporting terms given our current defensive problems.

"After starting his career very fast and with lots of promise, he has had some difficulties lately, but he has a lot of desire."
