Thai coach resigns after WC flop

Thailand coach Chanvit Phalajivin has left his post after failing to guide the team through the second qualifying round.

Phalajivin told wire agencies he had tendered his resignation to the Football Association of Thailand on Tuesday, after a series of humiliating defeats left Thailand at the foot of their group.

“I want to take responsibility,” said Phalajivin. “The fans do not believe in me.”

Thailand failed in their quest to win a single game in their qualifying matches, claiming only a draw against Bahrain, marking their sole point.

The Thai national outfit, who have never qualified for the World Cup finals, were put to the sword by opponents Japan, Oman and Bahrain.
