Wang winner for Shandong
Wang Yongpo's strike earned Shandong Luneng a 2-1 victory over Shenzhen Kingway to move to the top of the China Super League.
Shandong, the 2006 champions, went ahead after 10 minutes when Shu Chang headed in Aleksandar Zivkovic's corner.
Li Jinyu found the back of the net on two occasions as the hosts pressed forward seeking to double their advantage, but both strikes were ruled out for offside.
Angolan Johnson Monteiro Pinto Macaba equalised five minutes before the interval, capitalising on a mistake by Shandong goalkeeper Li Leilei to collect a loose ball and find an empty net.
Shenzhen were defensive in the second half, but Shandong claimed a deserved winner 20 minutes from time when Wang struck a 30-yard drive.
"After the first goal, the defensive players were not concentrated on the match and made a silly mistake," said Shandong's Serbian coach Ljubisa Tumbakovic. "As I see it, we didn't produce a good game for the fans."
Shandong now have 25 points with seven wins and four draws this season.
Shanghai Shenhua are two points behind and will move into pole position with victory over defending champions Changchun Yatai on Sunday in Changchun, while Shaanxi Baorong are one point behind Shandong and could move to top spot with victory at Changsha Ginde on Tuesday.
Changchun, the 2007 CSL champions, fired coach Gao Hongbo on Saturday amid this year's woeful performances in the Asian Champions League and the domestic competition.
Changchun, with a focus on the continental tournament this year, were edged out by Adelaide United of Australia in the Group E in May.
And the north-eastern side now have only 11 points in the 13th place of the 16-member CSL.
Elsewhere on Saturday, eight-time Chinese champions Dalian Shide were held by newly promoted Zhejiang Lucheng in a goalless draw at home.
Dalian now have 12 points in 10th place.
