Uruguay tabs 21 for Japan

Uruguay coach Oscar Washington Tabarez has called up 21 overseas players for the Japan friendly later this month.

There were few surprises in the squad, with Marcos Caceres earning his first call up since completing a move from Recreativo Huelva to Barcelona.

Uruguay play Japan at the Sapparo Dome on August 20, with the game serving as a warm-up match before they resume their World Cup qualification campaign.

Uruguay lie sixth in the South American Zone standings with eight points from six games, leaving them five points adrift of leaders Paraguay.

Tabarez plans to add a number of domestic-based players to complete the squad on Friday.

Squad: Fabian Carini (Real Murcia), Juan Guillermo Castillo (Botafogo); Diego Lugano (Fenerbahce), Diego Godin (Villarreal), Jorge Fucile (Porto), Andres Scotti (Argentinos Juniors), Carlos Valdez (Reggina), Bruno Silva (Ajax), Juan Manuel Diaz (Estudiantes), Martin Caceres (Barcelona); Walter Gargano (Napoli), Diego Perez (Monaco), Sebastian Eguren (Villarreal), Maximiliano Pereira (Benfica), Alvaro Gonzalez (Boca Juniors), Ignacio Gonzalez (Monaco), Cristian Rodriguez (Benfica); Luis Suarez (Ajax), Vicente Sanchez (Schalke 04), Washington Sebastian Abreu (Beitar Jerusalem), Diego Forlan (Atletico Madrid).
