DIC back in the hunt for Reds
Middle East reports suggest that Dubai International Capital (DIC) are poised to reignite their Liverpool takeover bid.
Arab consortium DIC have already had one takeover attempt rebuffed in March, after their US$800 million bid was rejected by current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett despite the huge rift that developed between the two current incumbents.DIC had envisaged to buy out Gillett’s majority stake before then pressuring Hicks into giving up his own share by offering the funds needed for Liverpool’s proposed new stadium.
However, the move broke down after Hicks vetoed the proposal and relations between the Americans have subsequently improved to a certain degree.
Kop boss Rafa Benitez, who has had to sell his fringe players before delving into the transfer market this summer, has now gone into another collision course with the owners after the latter refused to stump up the required US$36 million cash to sign Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry.
The owners have seemingly undermined Rafa after informing the Spaniard that there is no need for Barry when Xabi Alonso is still in their ranks, sending Rafa into a raging mood and making his already public courtship of Barry look like an embarrassing failure.
Therefore, the prospect of a DIC takeover would be warmly welcomed by the Anfield faithful and Dubai broadsheet The National now state that the firm are set to refresh their bid
A source close to the DIC directors said: "Just because it is has been a quiet summer does not mean DIC have lost interest. They are happy that things have now become low key, and they are awaiting developments."
