Park set to resume training

Manchester United's Park Ji-Sung is set to resume training next week after his recovery from a niggling knee injury.

Park, who suffered a recurrence of an old injury while on international duty for the Korea Republic in June, has not taken part in any of United's pre-season games, but now looks set to play a major role for the Red Devils as they attempt to retain their Premier League and UEFA Champions League crowns.

"I need probably one more week before I return so I'm nearly there," the talented 27-year-old midfielder told MUTV.

"I'm looking forward to the season because last season I missed six months and I want to show my ability.

"I want to play more than last season and show my ability on the pitch. Then maybe I will get more chances (in the team)."

The one-time PSV Eindhoven star's recovery is ahead of schedule, although his return to training has come too late for him to be considered for United's squad ahead of the Old Trafford outfit's Premier League opener against Newcastle on Sunday.

Since joining United in July 2005, Park has made 85 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, scoring eight times.
