Saturday's BPL team news

espnstar.com brings you all the latest team news for Saturday's matches in the new Barclays Premier League season.

Bolton vs. Stoke City

Bolton manager Gary Megson has just one injury concern ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener with Stoke at the Reebok Stadium.

Icelandic striker Heidar Helguson is set to miss the clash with the newly-promoted Potters due to a hernia problem, although he should be back in contention for the trip to Newcastle on August 23.

New signings Johan Elmander, Danny Shittu and Fabrice Muamba are all likely to feature, while Megson must choose between the experience of Jussi Jaaskelainen and the promise of Ali Al Habsi in goal.

Stoke will make late decisions over the fitness of last season's 15-goal top scorers Ricardo Fuller and Liam Lawrence.

Fuller, who only returned to full training this week, is more likely to be on the bench after suffering a knee injury while on international duty with Jamaica. Lawrence has been used sparingly in pre-season after a hernia operation, but he is expected to start.

Manager Tony Pulis has an otherwise fully fit squad to choose from.

Teams:
Bolton (from): Jaaskelainen, Al Habsi, Nolan, Davies, Taylor, Muamba, Gardner, A O'Brien, Shittu, McCann, Steinsson, Hunt, Samuel, Cahill, J O'Brien, Elmander, Riga, Dzemaili, Cohen, Vaz Te.

Stoke (from): Sorensen, Griffin, Cort, Shawcross, Dickinson, Lawrence, Delap, Olofinjana, Whelan, Cresswell, Sidibe, Kitson, Fuller, Simonsen, Pugh, Wilkinson, Diao, Parkin, Buxton, Pulis, Pericard.

Everton vs. Blackburn

Blackburn utility man Brett Emerton is set to be included in new manager Paul Ince's squad for the Barclays Premier League clash away to Everton.

The Australian suffered a bruised foot in a pre-season game against Benfica but should be fit, as should star striker Roque Santa Cruz despite a recent Achilles problem.

Also available will be Ryan Nelsen after his return from Olympics duty with New Zealand, although new signing Carlos Villanueva is not expected to feature as he recovers from a bout of chicken pox. Veteran striker Robbie Fowler, who has been training with Rovers, has not yet signed a short-term contract so is unavailable.

Everton manager David Moyes will be without six senior players.

Steven Pienaar (toe), Tim Cahill (foot), Tony Hibbert (knee), James Vaughan (foot) and Andy van der Mayde (hamstring) are all injured while Victor Anichebe is at the Olympics with Nigeria.

It means there could a starting berth for any one of the young quartet of Jack Rodwell, Dan Gosling, Jose Baxter and Lukas Jutkiewicz, who have all figured prominently for Everton in pre-season.

Teams
Everton (from): Howard, Ruddy, Turner, Neville, Jagielka, Lescott, Yobo, Valente, Baines, Osman, Arteta, Rodwell, Gosling, Baxter, Yakubu, Jutkiewicz, Agard, Kissock, Wallace.

Hull City vs. Fulham

Striker Marlon King could go straight into the Hull side for their Barclays Premier League opener against Fulham.

The Jamaica international joined the club on a season-long loan from Wigan on Thursday and will compete for a place with veteran Dean Windass and Caleb Folan up front. King is one of a number of new signings that could make his Tigers debut in this weekend's clash at the KC Stadium.

Peter Halmosi, George Boateng, Anthony Gardner, Bernard Mendy and Geovanni could all feature in a much-changed Hull side.

Folan received treatment for a muscle strain this week but is now fit and manager Phil Brown has no other injury worries.

Fulham will kick off the new season without $US21million striker Andrew Johnson, who is still recovering from a thigh injury.

The England international is manager Roy Hodgson's only absentee apart from long-term knee injury victim Diomansy Kamara and the former Inter Milan boss must decide how many debuts are to be handed out at the KC Stadium.

Goalkeepers Mark Schwarzer, Pascal Zuberbuhler and David Stockdale, defenders John Pantsil and Fredrik Stoor, midfielders Andranik Teymourian and Zoltan Gera and striker Bobby Zamora will all be hoping for first appearances for their new club.

Teams:
Hull (from): Myhill, Ricketts, Turner, Gardner, Dawson, Fagan, Ashbee, Boateng, Marney, Geovanni, Windass, Doyle, Hughes, Garcia, Cooper, Barmby, France, Halmosi, Featherstone, King, Mendy, Warner.

Fulham (from): Schwarzer, Zuberbuhler, Stockdale, Stoor, Pantsil, Volz, Hangeland, Hughes, Konchesky, Kallio, Andreasen, Bullard, Murphy, Davies, Gera, Andranik, Zamora, Nevland, Dempsey, Healy, Volz, Baird, Seol, E Johnson, Davis, Smertin.

Middlesbrough vs. Tottenham

Tottenham full-back Alan Hutton has a foot injury and is unavailable for the Barclays Premier League clash at Middlesbrough.

But skipper Ledley King, who missed the final part of last season to recover from a knee problem, is fit for the first game of the campaign. Elsewhere in defence, Didier Zokora could deputise for Hutton.

Dimitar Berbatov will be considered for the match while he remains at the club.
Midfielder Gary O'Neil has recovered from a calf strain and is expected to start for Middlesbrough.

O'Neil is likely to play in midfield alongside new signing Didier Digard, while captain Emanuel Pogatetz has also returned to training this week after shaking off a knee niggle and may start in defence.

Manager Gareth Southgate must find a right-back following the departure of Luke Young to Aston Villa. He was trying to complete the signing of Justin Hoyte from Arsenal today, but has added 19-year-old defender Rhys Williams to his squad.

Midfielder Julio Arca and defender Chris Riggott miss out with ankle and calf injuries respectively.

Teams
Middlesbrough (from): Jones, Turnbull, Williams, McMahon, Taylor, Grounds, Huth, Wheater, Pogatetz, Aliadiere, Emnes, O'Neil, Digard, Shawky, Downing, Johnson, Tuncay, Mido, Alves.

Tottenham (from): Gomes, Sanchez, Zokora, Gunter, Bale, Assou-Ekotto, Gilberto, King, Woodgate, Dawson, Modric, Bentley, Jenas, Huddlestone, Taarabt, O'Hara, Lennon, Boateng, dos Santos, Berbatov, Bent.

Sunderland vs. Liverpool

Captain Steven Gerrard will be fit to lead Liverpool into the new season when Rafael Benitez's team start their Barclays Premier League campaign at Sunderland.

Gerrard was only used for the final 24 minutes of the disappointing Champions League draw against Standard Liege on Wednesday following a thigh injury but will be in the side at the Stadium of Light after training on Thursday and Friday.

There are doubts over Xabi Alonso and Yossi Benayoun following minor muscle injuries resulting from the game in Belgium, but Fabio Aurelio and Martin Skrtel are both back in contention.

El-Hadji Diouf, Steed Malbranque, Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda are set to make their Premier League debuts for Sunderland.

Chimbonda (dead leg), Kieran Richardson (calf), Phil Bardsley (hamstring) and Danny Higginbotham (back) have recovered from injuries and are in contention. Kenwyne Jones, Dwight Yorke and Paul McShane miss out.

Teams
Sunderland (from): Gordon, Ward, Fulop, Chimbonda, Bardsley, Nosworthy, Collins, Higginbotham, Liddle, Edwards, Diouf, Tainio, Whitehead, Leadbitter, Reid, Richardson, Malbranque, Miller, Luscombe, Henderson, Chopra, Murphy, Stokes, Waghorn.

Liverpool (from): Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Skrtel, Dossena, Insua, Benayoun, Gerrard, Plessis, Alonso, Kuyt, Aurelio, Pennant, Torres, Ngog, Keane, Voronin, Cavalieri, Finnan.

West Ham vs. Wigan

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has a few injury concerns heading into the Latics' season opener at West Ham.

Chris Kirkland (back) and Emile Heskey (groin) have both been passed fit after picking up problems in pre-season, while Jason Koumas (knee) is also expected to be fit.

But Paul Scharner (ankle) and Ryan Taylor (shin) remain doubtful, with Erik Edman (knee ligament) still recovering from a long-term injury and Marlon King unavailable after joining Hull on a season-long loan.

West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand is a doubt as he is struggling with a hamstring injury sustained during the pre-season friendly against Ipswich.

Craig Bellamy (hamstring), Kieron Dyer (broken leg), Jonathan Spector (hip), George McCartney (virus), Danny Gabbidon (stomach), James Tompkins (leg) and James Collins (knee) are out.

Wigan (from): Kirkland, Nash, Pollitt; Boyce, Bramble, Figueroa, Melchiot, Montrose, Scharner; Brown, Cattermole, De Ridder, Kapo, Kilbane, Koumas, Palacios, Taylor, Valencia; Camara, Heskey, Sibierski, Zaki.
