espnstar.com brings you all the latest team news for Sunday's matches in the new Barclays Premier League season.

Aston Villa vs Manchester City

Aston Villa are set to hand a debut to right-back Luke Young against Manchester City at Villa Park on Sunday.

Young, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough, was ineligible for Thursday night's UEFA Cup qualifier against FH Hafnarfjordur.

Striker John Carew missed the game in Iceland with a slight calf strain but should be fit to face City.

Central defender Carlos Cuellar, who joined Villa from Rangers earlier this week in a $US15.6million deal, has a calf problem and is unlikely to be fit for another week.

Villa also have an injury doubt around midfielder Steve Sidwell, their $US10million summer signing from Chelsea.

Sidwell damaged his calf in training earlier this month and will need a late fitness test before manager Martin O'Neill finalises his team.

City manager Mark Hughes will be without skipper Richard Dunne through suspension.

The Republic of Ireland international was sent off in City's final game of last season at Middlesbrough and will be forced to sit out the first game of the new campaign.

Hughes may be tempted to shake up his side for the match at Villa Park after the shock UEFA Cup first-leg defeat by FC Midtjylland.

Bulgaria striker Valeri Bojinov is pushing for a place in the starting line-up after his recovery from a long-term knee injury.

City are short of options in attack as Benjani Mwaruwari and Darius Vassell are injured while Jo is part of Brazil's Olympic squad.

Chelsea vs Portsmouth

Portsmouth include summer signings Peter Crouch, Younes Kaboul and Jerome Thomas in their squad for Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash at Chelsea.

However manager Harry Redknapp will be without Sean Davis (hip), Glen Little, Noe Pamarot (both thigh), David Nugent and Linvoy Primus (both groin). Kanu could feature on the bench after recovering from a thigh injury.

With Pedro Mendes looking set to join Rangers, John Utaka and Papa Bouba Diop may both start in midfield while Kaboul may have to settle for a place on the bench as cover for Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin.

Nicolas Anelka will start as Chelsea's lone striker as Didier Drogba is still recovering from a knee injury.

Fellow forward Andriy Shevchenko is still not fully fit following groin surgery and Salomon Kalou is away at the Olympic Games.

The game marks manager Luiz Felipe Scolari's first in charge and he is set to hand debuts to Portugal internationals Jose Bosingwa and Deco.

Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Wayne Rooney will spearhead Manchester United's attack when the Barclays Premier League champions open their title defence against Newcastle at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Rooney missed the last two weeks of pre-season with a virus but Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed the England man is fit and will partner Carlos Tevez in attack.

Nani is suspended, so Ferguson must make changes from the Community Shield win over Portsmouth last weekend, with Michael Carrick tipped for a start.

Newcastle have included Argentina defender Fabricio Coloccini in their squad after he was signed from Deportivo La Coruna for an undisclosed fee.

The Magpies will be without four strikers - skipper Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Andy Carroll because of injury and Shola Ameobi who is talking to Ipswich ahead of a possible move - for the game at Old Trafford.

But there was some good news for on the striking front when Obafemi Martins returned from Nigeria feeling fine following a knee injury.

Joey Barton is not considered and Nicky Butt will captain the side on his former home ground in the absence of Owen.
