Liverpool 3-2 Middlesbrough (23-02-2008)

Liverpool were stunned by an early Tuncay header but a quick fire double by new boy Fernando Torres in two minutes helped the Reds claw themsleves back into the game. The Spaniard then completed his first ever hat-trick for Liverpool before Boro's Stewart Downing fired a late goal for the visitors.

West Bromwich Albion 4-0 Everton (19-11-2005)

Nathan Ellington was the hero for home side as his double set them up on their way to victory before a Neil Clement header and a strike from Robert Earnshaw consigned Everton to a miserable day at the office.

English Division 2 (old) Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Hull City (28-08-1990)

In this tight encounter played in the old English Division 2, Blackburn Rovers saw off a spirited challenge from Hull to emerge as 2-1 victors on 28th August 1990.

English Division 2 (old) Stoke City 0-0 Aston Villa (24-10-1987)

Another match which was last played during the old English Division 2, Stoke City and Midlands rivals Aston Villa had to share the spoils in a 0-0 draw on 24th October 1987.

Newcastle United 0-0 Bolton Wanderers (19-01-2008)

Kevin Keegan's second stint as Newcastle manager started off inauspiciously as the Magpies played out a dour goalless draw with Gary Megson's Bolton.

Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Sunderland (19-01-2008)


Aaron Lennon celebrated his 100th appearance for Spurs by opening the scoring in the 2nd minute while striker Robbie Keane scored his 100th goal for Tottenham as they gained revenge for their opening league defeat to Sunderland.

Fulham 0-3 Arsenal (19-01-2008)

The Gunners easily brushed aside the challenge of a struggling Fulham thanks to two headers from lanky forward Emmanuel Adebayor and a sensational Tomas Rosicky volley.

Wigan Athletic 0-2 Chelsea (03-11-2007)

Chelsea showed no signs of slipping under the new Avram Grant era when Frank Lampard slotted home early on but the match will be best remembered for Brazilian full back Juliano Belleti's rampaging run and absolute rocket that sealed the win for the Blues.

Manchester City 1-1 West Ham United (20-01-2008)


The Hammers drew first blood in the eighth minute thanks to striker Carlton Cole's acrobatic overhead kick but Sven Goran-Eriksson's outfit equalized in the 16th minute when Darius Vassell ghosted in unmarked to slot home a Martin Petrov cross.

Portsmouth 1-1 Manchester United (15-08-2007)

Paul Scholes' trademark humdinger of a strike looked to have earned the Red Devils their first league win of the season but Pompey forward Benjani Mwaruwari's bullet header saw the South Coast side force their way into the game. Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off late on for head butting Pompey's Richard Hughes.
