Giggs eager to catch up

Ryan Giggs has stated his intent on all three points in tonight's game at Fratton Park against Redknapp's Portsmouth.

The crafty winger stated that it was absolutely crucial the red devils take home three points if they want to close the six point gap from leaders Chelsea and Liverpool who have had perfect starts to the season.

Not wanting his teammates to be distracted from Friday's UEFA Super Cup clash with Russian side, Zenit St. Petersburg, he said: "The Newcastle result was disappointing, but that has gone. We're looking at Portsmouth and then the Super Cup.

We don't want a massive gap to open up between ourselves and the other teams who are going to be up there."

United who opened their season with a 1-1 draw against Kevin Keegan's Newcastle United at Old Trafford will be looking to put three points on the board against Pompey but will have to do it without the services of Michael Carrick and Cristiano Ronaldo.
