- Jose Baxter became the youngster player in Everton history to play in a competitive game at 16 years and 198 days.

- Djibril Cisse - the Lord of the Manor of Frodsham - scored on his debut for Sunderland at White Hart Lane . Cisse also scored for Liverpool at White Hart Lane on his Reds debut in 2004.

- Shay Given saved the first penalty of the season for Newcastle against Bolton at St James' Park. The victim was Kevin Nolan.

- West Ham's Mark Noble is the first player to be sent off in the BPL this season.

- Stoke won their first game in the top-flight in 23 years after beating Aston Villa at the Britannia Stadium. Their last win in the top division was the 2-0 victory over Arsenal on 30 March 1985.

- Mikael Silvestre became the first Manchester United player in 34 years to be transferred to Arsenal. Former ‘record-holder' Brian Kidd became a Gunner in 1974.

- Highest scoring game: Stoke City 3-2 Aston Villa
